If you’re interested in learning how to make cider, here are a few of the resources we have found to be very useful:
Craft Cider Making by Andrew Lea - this was our favorite reference book as it applies to commercial as well as serious hobbyist cidermakers and provides a no-nonsense approach to making traditional, craft cider.
Most of the information can also be found on Andrew’s excellent website .
Peter Mitchell teaches excellent beginner and advanced courses specific to cider making. These are offered annually both in Washington and New York states. Nearly all of the commercial cideries that have sprung up in the Pacific Northwest attribute their learning to these courses.
There are two main online cider groups with very active participates – one is UK based - Cider Workshop and the other is a US email cider ‘digest’ that is sent out whenever there are enough topics – you can find information about it here.
There are many other good books and cider resources out there, however the above listed sources have been the most useful to us in our first year of making cider.
